![]() Menendez is the sort of villain you just can’t seem to kill and, consequently, who knows how to hold a grudge. All of these soldiers’ fates are intertwined with the villain, Raul Menendez, and his organization Cordis Die. Frank Woods from the first Black Ops, while the 2025 missions follow Alex’s son, David. The Cold War-era missions follows characters such as Alex Mason and Sgt. You Can Shape It, but This Story Isn’t About the HeroThe campaign narrative jumps between various characters’ perspectives and also in time. It occasionally feels like the team might have strayed into territory they’re not quite masters of, but significant tweaks to the multiplayer loadout system, as well as the realization of player agency in the campaign, make this far more than “just another Call of Duty.” This is an evolution. While large portions of the design conform to the tenets established by prior iterations of the franchise, the unparalleled wealth of gameplay options and brilliant twists on the formula have shaped Black Ops II into the most ambitious and exciting Call of Duty ever made. ![]() What if Call of Duty was different? This appears to be the defining question informing the direction of developer Treyarch’s latest, Call of Duty: Black Ops II. We still plan to review the Wii U version, but did not receive them prior to launch and should have a review up shortly that highlights how it's different. Looking ahead, we have big launches like Madden NFL 24, as well as major games coming to Game Pass like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.Editor's Note: The following review is based off of the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and has been updated after playing the similarly featured PC and PS3 versions. Rounding up the top 40 are three reappearances with Conan Exiles (which was included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests) at 38th, Fallout 4 at 39th, and Smite at 40th. The game has been in Game Pass for a while, so perhaps more players are moving onto something else, but it's got plenty of new content on the way to lure them back in - Exoprimal could even get a Dino Crisis crossover if fans want it enough. It's not such good news for Exoprimal, however, which has fallen 15 places to 34th. Broforce, too, gets its first appearance in the top 40 at 31st after joining the Game Pass library last week. Just below, Quake 2 makes its first appearance at 23rd after shadow-dropping into Xbox Game Pass last week. ![]() Then we have our first reappearance of this week's chart with Vampire Survivors at 19th - the game adds a couch co-op mode soon with a free update, and there might be even more Vampire Survivor goodness on the way as the game also reportedly has a Director's Cut with extra content. Meanwhile, Diablo IV has fallen out of the top ten to twelfth. Overwatch 2 has managed to pull itself back into the top ten from twelfth - the devs recently discussed how they were unfazed by the decline in player engagement with Overwatch 2, which sees a "normal ebb and flow of players" as a free-to-play game. ![]() Chart Heidi Nicholas The top six spots on our Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games refuse to budge this week, and it's not until seventh place where we see a change, with Apex Legends having hopped up three spots (presumably as a response to all the changes made with Resurrection). ![]()
